Abstract
We describe the surgical technique and outcomes of tenon’s patch graft (TPG) in corneal fistula. TPG is an effective technique to salvage the globe. 10 patients of corneal fistula size upto 3mm were managed with tenon’s patch graft. The technique included freshening of the edges of the fistula; creating a 360 degree stromal pocket all around the fistula margin; harvesting a tenon’s graft 1 mm oversized compared to the defect size from superior quadrant followed by tucking the graft into the stromal pocket and suturing the graft using four to five 10-0 MFN interrupted sutures. Complete healing was noted at 6-8 weeks in all the cases. In one case resuturing was done on day 3. The advantages include autologous nature of tenon tissue (cf. patch graft), cost effective (cf. cyanoacrylate glue), easy availability (cf. amniotic membrane/ donor cornea) and minimal postoperative inflammation, vascularization as well as surface irregularity (cf. cyanoacrylate glue).
