Abstract
To study the demographic profile of preterm infants presenting with advanced stages of ROP especially stage 4B and stage 5 ROP,who were never screened,at a tertiary center in South India.It was a retrospective study.220 eyes of 110 premature infants were included.Out of 110 infants,6 infants were born within the same city and 104 infants were from other districts/States.Mean BW was 1125.94±359.84 grams and mean GA was 28.57±2.46 weeks.45.4 % infants were bilateral Stage 5 ROP,15.4 % had stage 5 in one eye and stage 4B in the other eye,13.6 % had bilateral stage 4B and 20.9% were having stage 4B in one eye and other eye having stage 4A/stage 3.25.45 % were self-referred(late presentation due to family-related issues),72.73% were referred by Ophthalmologists either after few sessions of screening or for further management,1was referred through telescreening and 1 was referred from Pediatrician directly to our hospital.It highlights importance of awareness and screening of these babies.
