Abstract
Introduction: Cataract is the most prevalent reason for blindness in India(50-80%). Although the hospitals offer cataract surgeries, patients still report late with mature and hyper-mature cataract. Aim: To study the socio-demographic profile of patients and evaluation of reasons for late presentation. Methodology: Cross-sectional, observational study through November 2020-June 2022 including 180 patients. The patients underwent detailed history taking comprising Sociodemographic details and reasons for delayed presentation and ocular examination. Results: Mean age of patients:59.85±5.52 years. Male: Female ratio:40%:60.Unemployed or retired:60.56%.Existence of systemic co-morbidities:65%.Lack of awareness, old age, systemic ailments, want of attendee, fear of surgery and lockdown due to COVID 19 were the chief reasons for the late reporting to the hospital. Conclusion :Awareness regarding cataract complications and arrangements for cataract surgeries at primary level is needed.
