Abstract

PURPOSE: To study the effect of inferior oblique weakening on macular and ganglion cell layer thickness in squint patients.

METHODS: 20 patients with concomitant squint having Inferior Oblique Overaction were included in this study . Different type of IO weakening procedures were performed depending upon the grade of IO overaction (IOOA). The average macular and ganglion cell layer (GCL) thickness (in µm) was measured preoperatively as well as day 1, 7, 30 postoperatively.

RESULTS: No significant difference in CMT or GCL thickness values was observed pre-operatively in eyes with and without IOOA (p-values 0.20 and 0.61 respectively).No significant difference in CMT and GCL thickness values was observed in the operated eyes as compared to their baseline preoperative values (p-values 0.596 and 0.218 respectively). CONCLUSIONS: IOOA itself does not cause any effect on CMT or GCL thickness. IO Recession Surgery has no effect on CMT or GCL thickness.
