Abstract
Synopsis -A new technique of holding icareIC100 tonometer is by placing one’s thumb over the forehead right under the forehead support knob ,it provides advantage in positioning the probe in patients with prominent eye balls with thyroid eye disease and proptosis, as maximum distance allowed by the support knob does not permit adequate distance, in order that IOP measurement can be taken at a distance of 4-8 mm from the cornea .If incorrectly positioned the probe will not advance. Another advantage is non-verbal reassurance to the patient when using in anxious patients for the first time and helps in stabilizing the head of the patient. Also , the patient’s brow can be lifted with the thumb thus resulting in lifting of the eyelid in patients with narrow palpebral aperture.
Conclusion-The placement of thumb support knob is an alternate, effective and accurate technique of measuring IOP with icare IC100, where maximum knob adjustment does not permit adequate distance .
