Abstract
Uveitic glaucoma (UG) is a complication of intraocular inflammation. We aimed to study the long-term clinical course of UG and the impact of treatment measures. A retrospective study on 582 eyes of 389 UG patients in 20 years (1/1/2000 – 31/12/2019) was conducted. The mean duration of glaucoma diagnosis after the initial uveitis episode was 8.6 months and the mean baseline IOP was 25.9mm Hg. 72.6% had open angles. Non-granulomatous anterior uveitis was commonest. Steroids in 60.4% (27.8% ocular, 32.6% ocular + systemic) and immunosuppressants in 15.3% were administered. 30.7% (24.9% filtration surgeries, 5.8% drainage implants) required surgery, and a significant reduction in IOP (p<0.001) was observed. Despite treatment, 22.1% were considered failures in terms of achieved IOP control (>21 and <5 mmHg). 2.4% required >1 surgery. A meticulous combination of anti-inflammatory and IOP lowering therapy with surgical options reserved for refractory scenarios will lead to a better course.
