Abstract
AIM: To know about the complications in trabeculectomy surgery by a beginner surgeon.
METHODOLOGY- It was a retrospective study on complication rate in trabeculectomy surgery performed by a beginner glaucoma surgeon.
RESULTS- Among studied data the complication rate was 25.21% which included sight threatening and non sight threatening scenarios like hyphema, shallow AC, choroidal effusion, hypotony and bleb related complications.
DISCUSSION: Primary trabeculectomy is the gold standard surgical procedure. In regards to Indian population, adherence to medical therapy and compliance with medications is poor. Owing to fore mentioned reasons, it becomes very important for the Ophthalmic surgeons to learn primary Trabeculectomy and hence preserve the patients sight.
conclusion: Learning trabeculectomy for beginner is difficult as it has steep learning curve but one should be aware of of critical steps in pre, intra and post operative management in order to reduce complications.
