Abstract
AIM – To study the effect of glaucoma surgery on ocular biometry in early childhood glaucoma and compare it with age-matched controls. Methodology: 155 children with early onset glaucoma (≤ 5 years) who underwent glaucoma surgery were included. 30 non-glaucomatous children were included as controls. Biometric parameters were noted at baseline and post-operatively at 3, 6 and 9 months. RESULTS- At baseline, glaucomatous eyes had significantly higher IOP and AL compared to controls. In children with age less than 12 months, significant changes (p <0.001) were observed in IOP, axial length, and other parameters after surgery while only a significant reduction in IOP was observed in children more than 12 months of age. IOP and axial length had a weak correlation in both the groups. Conclusion: Axial length is a useful parameter for diagnosis and follow-up of children with congenital glaucoma. Surgery can normalise axial length with the reduction in IOP if conducted before 12 months of age.
