Abstract
One of the most common Oculoplastics Surgery performed is Dacryocystorhinostomy or DCR. It is a bypass procedure by creating anastomosis between the lacrimal sac and nasal mucosa via a bony ostium, to re-establish drainage of tears into nasal cavity. It may be performed through an external skin incision (conventional external DCR) or intranasally with or without endoscopic visualization. Majority of the chronic dacryocystitis cases are caused by Coagulase negative Staphylococci and Staphylococcus aureus. Commensal flora of nose and conjunctiva have a direct role in Pathogenesis of chronic dacryocystitis. This e-poster will discuss step by step surgery of conventional or external DCR and how to collect ipsilateral nasal and conjunctival swab with intra- operative lacrimal sac aspirate for culture, to identify clinico-microbiological flora of lacrimal sac and its antibiotic sensitivity.
