Abstract
Meibomian gland carcinoma is a type of slow-growing sebaceous gland tumour. The tumour has a poor prognosis because of delayed diagnosis as it is mistaken for blepharoconjunctivitis or a chalazion. This report highlights the diagnosis and successful early treatment of a case of unilateral, fast-growing meibomian carcinoma with involvement of regional lymph nodes. The patient was a 32 year old female with complaint of a painless swelling in her right lower eyelid. The mass assumed a size of 4 cm X 2 cm within 3 months. Right-sided cervical lymph nodes of Levels II and III were palpable. MRI Orbit showed a soft tissue SOL at right lower eyelid. Wide local excision of the mass was performed with Mustarde flap and Hughes tarso-conjunctival graft. The biopsy report proved the mass to be a Meibomian gland Carcinoma. The lymph node FNAC report suggested metastatic carcinoma of the cervical lymph nodes. Following this, the patient received External Beam Radiation Therapy and Chemotherapy.
