Abstract
AIM:To assess safety and efficacy of difluprednate 0.05% vs prednisolone 1% for post-cataract surgery inflammation in pediatric patients.
Method:A prospective cross-sectional study was done in 20 patients (0–8 years) in tertiary eye centre undergoing phacoaspiration, with PCIOL from June 2021 to May 2022. Group A (10 eyes) received difluprednate while group B (10 eyes) received prednisolone for 14 days post-surgery. Adverse effects were noted to observe safety. Primary efficacy was proportion of patients with AC cell of 0-1+ at day 14.
Result:Adverse drug reactions included corneal edema (Group A ,n=1; group B, n=0) and increased IOP. Mean IOP values during treatment were 2–3 mm Hg higher with difluprednate; but were similar between groups by 1 week after stopping treatment. At 2 weeks, complete clearing of AC cells was similar between groups (group A n=8; group B n=7).
Conclusion:Difluprednate showed safety and efficacy similar to prednisolone in children undergoing cataract surgery.
