Abstract
Purpose: To present results of treatment of endophthalmitis. Methods: Retrospective chart review of cases of endophthalmitis from 2018. Results: There were 33 cases in the study with a mean age of 47.1 years and 24 were males. The aetiology included post surgical in 19 cases, post traumatic in 8 and endogenous in six. A premature infant and two post Covid cases were present among endogenous cases. The mean duration of symptoms before presentation was 8.5 days. Vitreous tap and intravitreal antibiotic was done in 25 cases and primary pars plana vitrectomy in eight cases. The mean initial and final BCVA in logmar units of 32 eyes were 1.64 and 0.92 (P<0.0001 student t test). Positive culture growth was seen in 30% of the cases including fungi in two cases. Eighteen of the 33(54.5%) had final VA of ≥6/60. Significant complications like evisceration in one case, retinal detachment in two cases, and final vision of HM or worse in three cases were seen.
