Abstract
Anaemia is the commonest haematological disorder which causes retinal manifestations. Anaemic retinopathy is usually asymptomatic and can be associated with retinal findings.
Case 1 presented with severe vision loss in both eyes and diagnosed case of aplastic anaemia. Retinal findings showed multiple haemorrhages along with Roth spots. Case 2 presented with severe vision loss along with boat-shaped haemorrhages with Roth spots on fundus examination. The patient was diagnosed case of anaemia along with vitamin B12 deficiency. Case 3 presented with decreased vision in both eyes after the Valsalva manoeuvre. Fundus findings showed a large boat-shaped haemorrhage in one eye and macular haemorrhage in the other eye along with Roth spots suggestive of anaemic retinopathy.
Treatment of anaemia improves the vision with resolution of retinal findings. Hence retinal haemorrhages and Roth spots seen on fundus examination should alert the ophthalmologist to refer the patient to haematologist.
