Abstract
Purpose: To compare accuracy of 9 intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation formulae in eyes with axial myopia. Methods: Eyes with axial length >26mm undergoing cataract surgery were included. Preoperative biometry was done using Lenstar LS 900. Optimized lens constants were used to calculate predicted post-op refraction of each formula and compared with actual refractive outcomes to give prediction errors. Kane formula, Barrett universal 2, EVO 2.0,Hill RBF 3,Olsen formula and Wang Koch adjusted 4 formulae SRK T,Holladay1,Haigis,Hoffer Q formula were compared. Results:165 eyes were included. Hill RBF 3 had lowest mean and median absolute prediction error amongst all formulas. In subgroup analysis (26-28mm, 28-30 mm and >30mm), significant difference was seen only in extremely long eyes (>30 mm). Hill RBF 3 generated maximum percentage of eyes with refractive errors within ±0.25D, ±0.5D, ±0.75D and ±1D. Conclusions: Hill RBF 3 was superior in accuracy to other formulas for myopic eyes.
