Abstract

Purpose:To find the best possible method for increasing public awareness for screening purpose in Diabetic Retinopathy.Methods:All the screening camps organised between November 2009 to December 2014 for Diabetic Retinopathy are included in the Study.Dilated Fundus Examination was done with Binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy with+20D lens by the retina specialist.Various Approach like Mass approach with public meeting through Posters,TV,radio,banner and newspapers.Group approach through seminars and patient interaction and individual approach through Patient education and counselling were compared with modified approach of Dramatised short movie on Diabetic Retinopathy.Results In 140 camps out of 22540 patients 4680 were diabetic 2202 had Diabetic Retinopathy and 1602 required Laser treatment.Our results showed that a new approach of movie showed significant increase in DM patients and 17% increase in Laser treatment.Conclusion:We have to constantly evolve new methods for Screening.
