Abstract
OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) and OCTA (OCT Angiography) can image and quantify the neuro axonal loss and vascular changes in the retina associated with optic neuritis in NMOSD (Neuromyelitis Optica spectrum disorders) and MOGAD (Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein antibody associated disease), in vivo.
Aim: To investigate the macular microvascular and structural alterations in patients with anti-aquaporin 4 (NMOSD) and anti-MOG antibodies (MOGAD)
Methods: 17 MOGAD, 7 NMOSD and 15 age and gender matched controls were enrolled. Macular OCT and OCTA scans were obtained. BCVA, vessel density (VD) in superficial vascular plexus and thickness were measured.
Conclusions: Significant loss of GCIPL (ganglion cell inner plexiform layer) were noted in both NMOSD and MOGAD affected eyes. NMOSD was associated with a decreased macular VD in both, affected and unaffected eyes while MOGAD was associated with significant drop in macular VD in affected eyes, without significant drop in BCVA.
