Abstract

Aim- To compare the validity of an online version of Ishihara colour vision test with the traditional Ishihara handbook. Method- A study was conducted on 120 randomly selected participants between 18-30 years age over a period of 6 months from those visiting the OPD of tertiary care hospital. Both tests were conducted under normal conditions on normal sighted individuals. Result- Out of 120, 52.5%(63) were male and 47.5%(57) were female with mean age of 24+/-2years. 6.3%(4) men were found Colour deficient,accounting to 3.3% of sampled population. Sensitivity and specificity of both tests were found to be 100%. Though online test correctly discriminated colour deficient from colour normal participants,it was unable to correctly identify the severity or type of deficiency. Conclusion- Online version of the Ishihara test used in this study proved a valid screening tool for colour vision deficiency but further clinical investigation needs to be undertaken for a more accurate diagnosis.
