Abstract
Surgical correction of ptosis is conventionally done through anterior approach which leaves remarkable external scar. However posterior approach has also been described. We present 16 cases of ptosis , 10 of which were of mild grade and underwent Mullers muscle conjunctival resection (MMCR) and 6 of them were of moderate grade who underwent white line advancement technique without resection of mullers muscle. All the patients had post operative MRD1 >/=3 , <1mm inter-eyelid height difference , no appreciable scarring ,no recurrence and no complications in a follow up period of 6 months .We have observed satisfactory results with MMCR in cases of mild grade ptosis and with white line advancement in cases of moderate grade ptosis . The post operative outcomes were comparable with that of conventional techniques but with better cosmetic results . We conclude, Posterior approach for ptosis correction is a novel surgical intervention with excellent aesthetic and functional outcome.
