Abstract
Aim: The aim is to investigate efficacy of dichoptic therapy vs patching in terms of best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), stereopsis, and binocular single vision (BSV) in children with anisometric amblyopia.
Methods: It is a prospective study of 60 children aged 7-13 years with amblyopic eye BCVA ranging from logMar 0.30 to 1 and/or inter eye difference of 0.23, we compared the occlusion method of anti-suppression with the dichoptic vision therapy of Bynocs 30min sessions/day, followed for 1 month.
Result: At 1 month, the amblyopic eye BCVA was greater with the binocular game vs patching, with a mean improvement of 1.0 logMAR vs 0.5 logMAR. Statistically significant improvement in BSV and stereopsis was seen in both groups, but the patching group did better.
Conclusion: Bynocs showed a greater improvement in vision as opposed to patching. Though it did not out do patching in terms of BSV and stereopsis, it is a good alternative to occlusion therapy especially in terms of compliance.
