Abstract
Purpose – Analyze clinical outcomes of posterior chamber phakic
intraocular (PIOL) implantation for refractive amblyopia in children
Methods- 1st Clinical trial/India.Prospective interventional study on amblyopia children at tertiary eye care center . 23eyes of21anisomyopic and isomyopic amblyopia patients operated for PIOL.Pre&post-operative visual
acuity, cycloplegic refraction, anterior and posterior segment examination, intraocular pressure,
pachymetry, contrast sensitivity, endothelial count, and patient satisfaction evaluated. Followed up1,42&90days&visual outcomes&complications documented.
Results Mean age as 14.16+/- 3.49 years (range 10-19). Mean PIOL Power -12.21DS & -2.25DC in 4 patients. UDVA &BCVAwere 1.39+/-0.16 and 0.40 +/- 0.176 preop,post-op VAimproved 2.6 lines. Post-surgery, contrast sensitivity improved&average endothelial loss was 5.78 %. Patient satisfaction score significant.
Conclusion: PIOL is safe, effective method for treating amblyopia.
