Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to describe the ophthalmological findings in a series of 5 patients of Carotid Cavernous Fistula. A carotid-cavernous fistula (CCF) is the result of an abnormal vascular connection between the (ICA) or (ECA) and the venous channels of the cavernous sinus. The presentation can be varied and nonspecific and due to venous congestion. Prompt diagnosis and management of CCF is essential for good visual prognosis.
Patients had significant orbital congestive features. All 5 patients had ocular features secondary to trauma. Features included pulsatile axial proptosis ,chemosis, diplopia. 4 of the patients has acute history and diagnosed with indirect CCF and 1 had chronic history and diagnosed with direct CCF. Bruit was auscultated. The diagnosis was confirmed using DSA and management included endovascular embolization.
All 5 cases were treated in collaboration with intervention radiology and showed outstanding visual prognosis immediately following treatment.
