Abstract
Aim:To study the outcomes of vitrectomy in non-clearing vitreous haemorrhage in Terson syndrome.
Methods: Retrospective sequential analysis of Terson syndrome cases was done from 2007 – 2021. Patients treated with vitrectomy were evaluated for baseline visual acuity (VA), VA 1 month post-surgery and final visual outcome. Age, etiology of intracranial hemorrhage(ICH), timing of surgery were analyzed for
effect on final visual outcome.
Results:33 eyes of 31 patients(age 22-73) with Terson syndrome were analyzed, of which 18 eyes(age
24- 73) underwent vitrectomy. The mean time interval between ICH and surgery was 108.78 days. The mean post OP VA 1 month after vitrectomy was significantly higher than baseline visual acuity (P = 0.001). Age, etiology and timing of surgery did not affect the final visual outcome.
Conclusion: Vitrectomy yields exemplary outcomes for non-clearing vitreous hemorrhage in Terson syndrome which were also maintained over a period of time.
