Abstract
In this prospective cross-sectional study,162 samples were collected with age group of 6-17 years. The subjects were classified into three groups:Group 1- Emmetropes, Group 2- Myopes, Group 3- hyperopes. Informed consent was given to parents. All selected participants underwent dry eye evaluation which include Schirmer’s test 1 and 2, Tear breakup time, Tear meniscus height, Conjunctival staining and Blink rate. Along with dry eye evaluation, modified OSDI questionnaire and Life style questionnaire was given as google form to the parents.RESULTS: The average values of Refractive error, Schirmer’s test 1, 2, TBUT, TMH, Blink rate, and OSDI for myopes was -3.13, 27, 18, 11, 0.2, 9, 15. The Schirmer’s and TBUT were decreased in High myopia. The OSDI score was increased in High myopia and moderate hyperopia. CONCLUSION: Subclinical dry eye disease is significantly associated with prevalence of myopia among pediatric population. Dry eye disease could be a possible risk factor for myopia.
