Abstract

A study of the safety and efficacy of 23G pars plana vitrectomy for symptomatic floaters in pseudophakic eyes. Core vitrectomy, removed up to the vitreous base, induction of a PVD, extensive search for retinal breaks, Mean followup- 18 months( 12-28 months) Mean age 63 years (58-68 years) Men 48.5% ( 17 eyes)and women 51.5% (18) Etiology-posterior vitreous detachment- 60% (21), asteroid hyalosis-40% (14). Visual acuity outcomes -vision improved from Snellen visual acuity, 6/18 to 6/9. Quality-of-Life Survey 28(80%) patients completed the questionnaire, which revealed that 27 (96.42%) were “satisfied” with the results of the operation, and 24 (85.71%) rated the experience as a “complete success”. Complications- Operative Procedure-A preexisting PVD 82.8% (29 eyes) Pre-existing retinal break not found, PVD induction 17.2% (6 eyes)- Of these none developed a retinal tear. Conclusion -significant improvement in visual acuity due to severity of symptoms with low complication rate
