Excessive bleeding on table is a surgeon’s nightmare. Solitary fibrous tumors (SFT) is an encompassing terminology comprising of tumors with proliferating CD34 positive specialized fibroblasts. Orbital SFTs are rare slowly progressive highly vascular neoplasms. Complete surgical excision is considered the mainstay treatment. Incomplete resection is a known risk factor for recurrence and malignant transformation. Recently pre-operative embolization of SFT has shown promising results in reducing the vascularity of these tumors rendering them amenable to complete surgical excision. Our patient underwent an attempted surgical excision elsewhere with significant intraoperative hemorrhage which precluded its complete excision. This video demonstrates the use of preoperative embolization as an effective and safe procedure to reduce vascularity in hypervascular orbital tumors like SFTs helping easier dissection and complete excision with minimal intraoperative blood loss.
