Abstract
Objective:To report unexpected & unusual cases of visual loss & aesthetically unacceptable ocular calamities.Methodology:All cases of terminal ocular calamities presenting to eye opd were admitted,evaluated,investigated & managed,keeping in view,”SAVE SIGHT,SAVE LIFE”.Study period-1year(Aug’21-July’22);Study design-Prospective Observational;Study place-Department of Ophthalmology, radiology, pathology, ENT, oncology, microbiology.RESULTS-10 cases were studied;5-ocular myiasis & 5 rhinosporidiosis.All belonged to low socioeconomic status with poor personal hygiene,Male:Female-1:1,2 cases of ocular myiasis had associated Basal cell carcinoma.All myiasis cases responded well to topical crushed ivermectin, albendazole cleaning with turpentine oil,systemic antibiotics & multivitamin infusions.Rhinosporidiosis cases with bizzare presentation were excised,given tab Dapsone to prevent recurrence. Conclusion: Community awareness visits to the interior villages would lower ignorance en mass.
