Abstract

Canalicular obstruction has been reported to be between 16 and 25% in patients presenting with obstructive epiphora.Canaliculodacryocystorhinostomy and conjuctivodacryocystorhinostomy have been performed as a measure to relieve epiphora in canalicular obstruction.But because of their disparate physiological and anatomical success rates and relatively high complication rates,these procedures have not been acknowledged.Trephination with mini monoka stent insertion is a minimally invasive procedure & has been suggested as an alternative technique with higher success rate & better quality of life for the patients of canalicular obstructions. We present a prospective interventional case series in which 35 patients of idiopathic distal canalicular obstruction were managed surgically.Lacrimal canalicular trephination with mini monoka stent insertion is an easy and lesser invasive technique with minimal complications as compared with other treating modalities but with variable success rates.
