Abstract

Aim: To high light the importance of SORAFENIB induced Demyelinating optic neuropathy.

Materials and method: SORAFENIB is a protein kinase inhibitor (chemotherapeutic) used to treat advanced renal cell carcinoma. 16 year old female with known case of retroperitoneal fibromatosis, status post surgical excision was referred from PAEDIATRIC MEDICINE with H/o diminution of vision in both eyes for 2 weeks after using oral SOARFENIB. MRI BRAIN showed demyelination changes in right thalamo capsular region, MRI ORBIT was normal. On lumbar puncture CSF analysis showed mildly elevated proteins. O/E BCVA had decreased from 6/6, N6 to 6/18, N8 in both eyes in a span of 2 months. BE pupils were sluggishly reactive with NO RAPD. Lens was clear and fundus showed bilateral temporal pallor of disc. Visual fields showed bilateral central scotoma and VEP showed increased latency in right side.

Conclusion: This case reports that SORAFENIB can induce Demyelinating optic neuropathy.
