Abstract
Purpose: To report the use of biologic agents in recalcitrant uveitis and scleritis in a tertiary eye care center in south India.
Methods: Retrospective observational case-series.22 patient records with recalcitrant uveitis and scleritis were retrieved. Complete ophthalmic evaluation and systemic examination by a rheumatologist.
Results: Mean age group was 37.13±7.57. 59.1 % was bilateral. 68.1% were male. Dimness of vision 90%,floaters9%,redness40.9%,pain18.1%.Adalimumab were given in ankylosing spondylitis3.6%, Bechet’s disease13.6%,HLA B27 uveitis13.6%,anterior uveitis with ankylosing spondylitis9%,Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis13.6%,Anterior uveitis13.6%,Crohn’s disease, intermediate uveitis with ankylosing spondylitis and necrotizing scleritis in 1 patient each. Glaucoma 22.7%, cataract27.2%, subretinal fluid 4.5% were seen. Visual acuity improved in 22.7%, maintained in 54.5% and decreased in 9%.
Conclusion: Biologic agents is effective in recalcitrant uveitis and scleritis.
