Abstract
Ophthalmic complications are rarely seen in dengue infection but can be serious. Here, we report a rare case of 20-year-old male who presented with sudden onset diminution of vision in left eye for 2 days. The patient had an acute febrile illness 1 week ago and was diagnosed with dengue fever after positive serological results. On presentation, he was afebrile and his platelet count was 70,000/µL. On ocular examination, his best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) was 6/6 in right eye and 2/60 in left eye. The anterior segment examination was normal in both eyes. Fundus examination showed scattered yellowish retinal infiltrates in both eyes and macular edema in left eye. Optical coherence tomography(OCT) showed left eye macular edema with central foveal thickening of 948µm and thickening of 215µm in right eye. FFA was also advised. Oral steroids were started and marked improvement was seen. The case stresses the need for ocular examination in dengue viral infection.
