Abstract
Purpose
To assess optical and clinical outcomes of Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK) in patients with iridocorneal endothelial syndrome (ICE).
Methods
A retrospective study was conducted wherein 12 cases of ICE syndrome were evaluated in which DSEK was done for corneal oedema. Parameters such as visual acuity, intra ocular pressure, post operative graft clarity, additional surgical interventions, and complications were evaluated.
Results
In 12 patients, mean age was 51 years. Mean pre operative vision was 1.42(0.8) and post operative vision was 0.52(0.3), the difference was significant (0.002), with a mean follow up of 20.5 months. Additional procedure of GDD implantation was needed in 7 patients, trabeculectomy in 2. Rest 3 patients were managed on Anti Glaucoma medications. Graft clarity was achieved in 11 cases (92%).
Conclusion
In spite of the complex course of the disease and surgical management, excellent graft survival and optical outcomes can be achieved.
