Abstract

AIM:Determine clinical outcomes of 0.5% timolol maleate e/d for treatment of conjunctival pyogenic granuloma (CPG) and its effect on intraocular pressure (IOP).

METHOD:Prospective interventional study of 11 pts with CPG who prescribed timolol e/d between Jan 2021 & aug 2021.Pts followed wkly up to 8 wks. IOP measured. T/t aborted after 8 wks if resolution not noted and surgical excision undertaken.

RESULT:CPG pts treated with timolol e/d.9 (81.81%) pts had complete resolution & 2 pts underwent excision after 8 wks. 10 (90.9%) lesions located on palpebral,1 (9%) involved bulbar conjunctiva. mean IOP of affected eye at presentation was 15.1 mm Hg (range: 10 to 20 mm Hg; SD: ±2.9 mm Hg). 1 wk after initiating therapy, mean IOP was 12.1 mm Hg (range: 8–16 mm Hg; SD: ±2.4 mm Hg). mean reduction IOP compared to baseline IOP was statistically significant (p = 0.02).

CONCLUSION:Topical timolol is effective in treatment of CPG. There is a significant reduction in IOP which is reversible.
