Abstract
Purpose : We evaluated the reduction in intraocular pressure (IOP) & IOP lowering medication in different stages of open angle glaucoma after BANG.This is the first study from India.
Methods : 30 eyes of 22 POAG patients with mild, moderate, and severe glaucoma were included. 21 eyes underwent BANG with phaco and 9 eyes had standalone BANG procedure. Mean age was 65yrs and 42% of patients were male. Phaco was performed prior to repositioning patient for direct gonioscopy. 24-G needle was used & nasal goniotomy of atleast 2-3 quadrants was performed.
Results : Average IOP reduction at post op month 3 was 18.43%(p=0.0005). Average drop reduction was 0.67 (p=0.0007). The reduction in IOP according to severity of glaucoma was 23.39% (p=0.0093), 9.05% (p=0.0684), 28.57%(p=0.0492) & in no. of medications was 1.00 (p=0.0382), 0.73 (p=0.0104), 0.25 (p=0.4512) in mild, moderate & severe POAG respectively.
Conclusion: BANG provides significant reduction in IOP & drops across all stages of POAG.
