Abstract
Aim-To determine the efficacy of Spaeth Richman CS Test as compared to the conventional Pelli Robson Test for CS assessment in glaucoma patients
Methods-We tested 174 eyes (87 glaucoma and 87 age matched control ).we obtained The PR score for central CS and SPARCS scores for 4 outer zones and central region.
Results:Mean PR and SPARCS scores for each subgroup were compared.Mean scores in glaucoma patients were lower than those in control group. There was positive correlation between PR scores and Total SPARCS score (r= 0.64 P < 0.001).For glaucoma,Total SPARCS score of 70 yielded 83.9 %sensitivity and 96.6 % specificity,While PR log based score of 1.35 or less had 93.9 % sensitivity and 59.8 % specificity Conclusion-SPARCS and PR test may be used interchangeably.SPARCS is superior alternative to PR Test in screening early glaucomatous changes, unaffected by literacy and assesses both central and peripheral CS, making it more sensitive in glaucoma causing peripheral retinal function loss
