Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate dry eyes in VKC children and corelate with symptoms, clinical and OSA parameters.
Methods: 87 clinically diagnosed VKC children underwent complete ophthalmological examination, Modified OSDI scoring, Bonini grading, F-TBUT, CLEK scoring, and OSA. Children with F-TBUT of <10sec were defined to have evaporative dry eyes who were then compared with non-dry children in all the parameters. Results: Dry eyes were seen in 60.9% patients. The mean age was 9.3 years. The mean TBUT was 13.4 and 5.9 sec in no dry vs dry eye group (p= 0.00). They didn’t differ in OSDI scoring, Bonini grading, CLEK scoring. The OSA parameters of NIBUT (8.3 in no dry eye and 6.4 in dry eye group, p=0.008) & lower lid MG loss (7.4 in no dry eye and 12.3 in dry eye group, p= 0.028) were different among the two groups. Conclusion: Dry eyes are seen in considerable proportion of VKC children. Among OSA parameters, NIBUT & lower lid MG loss were associated with dry eyes in pediatric VKC patients.
