Abstract
Objective: To describe the histopathology (HPE), immunohistochemistry (IHC) and molecular biology correlations in uveitis. Methods: Retrospective analysis of 18eviscerated or enucleated globes of uveitis, over10 years was studied. Results: In Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome(VKH)(1case) and Sympathetic Ophthalmia(SO)(9cases),predominantly T-cell was seen. VKH case showed nongranulomatous inflammation(NGI) with predominant CD 20 positivity(+), whereas SO showed predominant CD 3+.In 3 cases of tubercular(TB) panuveitis, mycobacterial tuberculosis(MTB) was detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR).In Eales’ disease(2 cases)with chronic NGI,IHC showed CD 8+Tcells.PCR showed MTBDNA. One eye of pars planitis showed a cellular tissue with chronic granulomatous inflammation on HPE.IHC showed both CD 3 and CD 20+.HPE in 1 case of acute retinal necrosis showed chronic NGI,herpes virus inclusion bodies and CD3+on IHC. Conclusion: This study gave an insight to etiopathogenesis of several entities.
