Abstract
Purpose: To determine the post-operative enface optical coherence tomography (OCT) pattern of closure in idiopathic macular holes.
Methods: This was a retrospective, multicentric, observational study done in eyes with idiopathic MH. Baseline characteristics and pre-operative OCT parameters were measured. Type of hole closure was analyzed using enface OCT.
Results: 64 eyes of 62 patients (24 males and 40 females) with a mean age of 63.8+/-12.4 years were included. On enface OCT, two closure patterns were noted – round, linear (horizontal, oblique or vertical). A total of 38 eyes had a round closure, 26 eyes had a linear closure (17 eyes horizontal, 7 eyes oblique closure, and 2 eyes vertical). In eyes with horizontal MLD more than 650 microns, eyes with linear closure had a significantly (p=0.03) better visual acuity than the round closure group.
Conclusion: We describe three different patterns of hole closure on enface OCT and describe its prognostic significance in larger holes.
