Abstract
A retrospective analysis of a cohort of 42 eyes treated for neovascular macular telangiectasia was performed. Of these, 31 eyes showed characteristic sub retinal neovascularization and 5 eyes showed silent neovascularization(Both clubbed as Group A). Interestingly, 4 eyes showed Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy, whereas Pachychoroid neovasculopathy and retinal angiomatous proliferation(RAP) was seen in 1 eye each(All clubbed as Group B). Mean age of the cohort was 59.45± 7.8. However, mean age of the patients in Group B was higher(65.17±7.08). Also, even though choroidal thickness was comparable in Group A and Group B (334±61.88 vs 338.33 ± 85.9), dilated choroidal vessels were seen in all but one patient(presenting with RAP) in Group B.
The appearance of these choroidal variants of neovascularization in association with Type 2 Macular telangiectasias could be a pointer towards possible choroidal circulation changes associated with the disease which need to be investigated further.
