Abstract

The invention of PFCL came as a great boon for the vitreoretinal surgeons- so much that it was called by many as the third hand of a surgeon. Undoubtedly it is of great assistance in managing complex retinal detachments and PDR surgeries helping in stabilising the fluttering retina, achieving haemostasis, stabilising the ILM flaps and even neurosensory retinal grafts in macular hole cases.

Some authors even advocate keeping the eye PFCL filled for medium term in selected cases.

But as always, the boon comes with its own set of challenges and complications.

We present a few interesting & challenging cases where PFCL turned out to be the villain.
