Abstract
Ocular Tuberculosis and thrombophilia are important associations of Branch retinal vein occlusion in young patients. A 25 years old male presented with sudden onset diminution of vision in the right eye since 10 days with best corrected visual acuity of 6/36. Fundus examination revealed multifocal retinitis with BRVO. The patient was a diagnosed case of Homocysteinemia and had a positive Mantoux test. The patient was treated with anti-tubercular therapy, oral corticosteroids and sectoral Photocoagulation (PHC). The best corrected visual acuity at follow-up visits improved to 6/6 parts. The patient developed a vitreous hemorrhage despite being stable post PHC due to stoppage of Vitamin supplements prescribed for homocysteinemia. Supplements were restarted and the patient was observed. It was concluded that systemic management of underlying etiology and risk factors with prevention of neovascularization ensures good visual outcome in young patients with BRVO.
