Abstract
INTRODUCTION – To evaluate the effectiveness of biologic therapy in patients with refractory non-infectious uveitis and scleritis.
MATERIAL AND METHODS – A retrospective study on patients with non-infectious uveitis and scleritis who were not responding or had a high recurrence rate with the conventional treatment and had received biologic therapy.
RESULTS – We studied 13 patients who received biological therapy. Demographic profile and efficacy of the biologic agents were analysed. Total duration of follow up for the adalimumab group was 60 months, and for infliximab group was 48 months. We have analysed duration of treatment of each biologics, effect on recurrence rate of inflammation and final visual outcome in each biologic group.
CONCLUSION – Biologic therapy is effective in non-infectious refractory uveitis and scleritis, earlier resistant to conventional therapy. They help in controlling the inflammation, its severity and the risks of recurrences.
