Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Children with uveitis are often asymptomatic and resistant to conventional treatment. The various ocular complications often lead to irreversible visual disability. The aim of our study was to investigate the spectrum, risk factors, treatment outcomes in pediatric uveitis. METHODS: Retrospective study between January 2012-June 2022. Type, laterality, risk factors, treatment outcomes & complications were analysed.
RESULTS: The mean age of 132 cases:12.02±5.02 years. Mean follow up:20.5±25.1 months. Bilaterality:63.1% cases. Most common type: panuveitis (37.1%). Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (37.50%) was the common etiology in anterior uveitis while it was idiopathic in other groups. Immunomodulator use:43.9%; Biologics:10.6%. Risk factors and complications were analysed. CONCLUSION: Pediatric uveitis is a broad spectrum disorder with varied presentation. Early detection & thorough clinical examination for systemic diseases is the key to preserve the quality of vision.
