Abstract
Methods: : A retrospective case review was done for patients having corneal infection by rare bacterial organisms at a tertiary eye care centre from Jan 2018 to Dec 2019. Three interesting cases of corneal infection by rare bacterial organisms ie Pseudomonas Stutzeri, Acinetobacter Baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa resistant to most of antibiotics could be found. These cases posed diagnostic dilemma, however end results were very satisfactory.
Results: All three cases had different clinical presentations and in different scenarios. Patients had very severe corneal ulcers not responding to any antimicrobials. As a last resort, they were treated with topical colistin (0.19%) fortified eye drops and they had remarkable response, ulcer healed.
Conclusion: Corneal ulcer poses diagnostic dilemma during treatment. Thorough clinical work-up is the key to appropriate management. Rare causes of corneal ulcer should be kept in mind when the ulcer is not responding to conventional treatment.
