Abstract
Purpose:To develop an algorithm for planning Toric Implanatable Collamer Lens (TICL) in Kertaoconus (KC).
Methods:35 eyes of 21 KC patients who underwent TICL implantation were retrospectively studied. Eyes having decentered cones(n=5), and high HOA(n=10)/ Contact lens Intolerance(n=15) underwent INTACS and topo-guided PRK along with cross linking respectively, followed by TICL implantation after ensuring stability for 2 years.
Results: The preoperative MRSE of –7.79 ± 4.75D decreased to −0.52 ± 0.90 D at 2 years.
BCVA improved significantly post-operatively(P<0.0001). The pre-op mean cylinder of -4.48±2.24D was found to be -0.98±0.84D post-operatively. 18 eyes showed no change, 11 gained 1 line and 6 gained 2lines and no eyes showed loss of lines on snellens chart. None of them showed regression 2 years post surgery Conclusion:The results confirm that TICL is a safe and effective surgical option for visual rehabilitation in KC, alleviating the need for spectacle or contact lens.
