Abstract
Takayasu arteritis is a large vessel vasculitis of aorta and its branches. It can have varied manifestations and course in the eye. We present two different ocular presentations of Takayasu arteritis. A 34-year-old female presented with sudden diminution of vision in the LE. On examination, blood pressure discrepancy was noted between upper and lower limbs. BCVA was 6/6 in RE and PL+ in LE with grade 3 RAPD in LE. There were numerous peripheral microaneurysms in BE with LE pallid disc edema suggestive of Arteritic AION. MRA confirmed the diagnosis of Takayasu Aortoarteritis, started on systemic steroids but worsened and could not be revived. Another 32-year female who was a diagnosed case of Takayasu arteritis was referred for Ophthalmic evaluation. Fundus examination showed microaneurysms with disc edema with NVD . PRP was given to both eyes and responded well to systemic steroids. This highlights two varied presentations and course of Takayasu arteritis – AAION and Ocular ischemia.
