Abstract
PURPOSE:Aniridia refers to total or partial absence of Iris and is caused due to haplo-insufficiency of PAX6 gene on short arm of Chr11. METHODS: Our patient is a 16 years old boy who presented with gradual, painless, progressive diminution of vision of both eyes since 5 years. he was using topical antiglaucoma drug since 5 years ( topical Timolol). RESULT: Ocular examination revealed 15 degree exotropia of LE. lens examination under slit lamp revealed posterior subcapsular cataract with superior subluxation of lens in both the eyes. Fundus under mydriasis showed pallor of the disc with CDR of 0.6 in RE and 0.8 in LE with normal foveal reflex. The BCVA of the RE was 6/36 and LE was 6/60. IOP measured by Goldmann’s Applanation tonometry was 28mmhg in BE. No other systemic abnormalities was found. CONCLUSION: Glaucoma in Congenital Aniridia is often refractory to oral medication and requires immediate surgical intervention along with cataract surgery by pars plana cataract extraction.
