Abstract
Purpose: To study success rate of repeat DCR by small flap saving technique.Method: Retrospective review of 134 repeat DCR surgery (March 2011 to Dec 2021) by a single surgeon using small flap saving techenique. Incision made through original scar. Small lacrimal sac mucosal margin ( 1-1.5 mm )around common canaliculi opening is saved so that the sac remains as a disc with punctum in its middle.Arruga’s bone trephine was used to make Osteum in the nasal bone and nasal mucosa. Upper part of the remaining lacrimal sac was sutured with subcutaneous tissue/periosteum of medial side to avoid sagging. Sac syringing with 1ml of 0.4mg/ml Mitomycin c was done on 5th post-op. days. All cases were followed up for one year. Results: Anatomical/objective success -133 (99.2 %; 95% Confidence interval: 95.9-99.9%) Functional/subjective success-131 (97.7%; 95% Confidence interval: 93.6-99.5%).Conclusion: Repeat DCR with this technique is safe and easy with such high success in the second year.
