Abstract

PURPOSE: To study the association of aniridia with glaucoma and its various ocular features. Retrospective Review of records of patients diagnosed with aniridia between 2010 and 2020 was done and patient demographics, ocular features and management were noted. RESULTS: 63.6% were males, with a mean age at presentation being 9.18  10.57 years. 17 of 22 eyes had elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) at some point in their follow-up and required antiglaucoma medications (AGMs), with 58.8% requiring 2-4 AGMs. Incidence of glaucoma was 50% (11of 22) of which 6 eyes were refractory to medical or surgical management. 3 of 11 eyes required Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) implantation, of which only 1 was successful in achieving target IOP. Nystagmus, limbal stem cell deficiency, glaucoma, foveal hypoplasia cataract were the most ocular common associations. Glaucoma in aniridia can be difficult to treat and other ocular associations, such as keratopathy and cataract, only adds to the challenge.
