Abstract
Sympathetic ophthalmia is a rare bilateral panuveitis following penetrating injury or intraocular surgery in one eye.Early and prompt management with immunosuppressants retains good visual acuity in the fellow eye. Here we report a case of 36 year old male with blurred vision in left eye since 2 weeks with traumatic scleral tear 6 weeks back(status post repair).Right eye was blind and phthisical; left eye had a vision of 6/60 with granulomatous anterior uveitis, vitritis, multiple exudative detachments and subretinal precipitates. OCT left eye showed many precipitates at Bruch’s membrane level(Dalen-Fuch’s nodules). FFA left eye detected multiple pinpoint leakages in posterior pole.Treatment was initiated with intravenous methylprednisolone for 5 days after which oral steroids were started and tapered over 4 weeks.Vision in the left eye post treatment was 6/18.Enucleation of the exciting eye was done and the diagnosis confirmed pathologically. This case is reported for its rarity.
