Abstract
Objective: To evaluate frequency of diabetic retinopathy (DR) with duration of Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Methods: 1100 patients of DM reporting to Medicine OPD of a tertiary care hospital, from 01 January 2021 to June 2022 were screened for DR. Patients where retina was not visible due to opaque media, were excluded from study. In all patients duration of DM was recorded. Urine sugar, blood sugar and Hb A1C was done. Detailed ophthalmological and retina examination was done. Results: DR was detected in 26% patients Non Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR) was detected in 77.97% and Proliferating Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR) in 22.03% patients. Study reveals increase in incidence of DR with increase in duration of DM. DR Incidence was found in 7.24% of patients having duration of DM less than 5 years and was found in 78.13% of patients having duration of DM more than 20 years. Conclusion: There is an increase in incidence of DR with increase in duration of DM.
